Fly Sphere 3.0 (Clear finish, leather rope)

THE STORY
The use of a plastic bag full of water hanging from the ceiling of several taco kiosks on the streets is a traditional way to scare flies away in most of the food markets in Mexico. The refraction of the water, amplifies colours and movement that makes the fly nervous, scaring it away.

The designer, Jose de la O’s “Anti-Fly Sphere” oozes sleek and contemporary design. This glass globe was commissioned from a family-run glass blowing practice based in Mexico City.

The Fly Sphere makes it the perfect modern, sustainable pesticide, where the insect remains unharmed and the food is free of flies.

DESIGN
The Fly Sphere is entirely made by hand at a family owned glass workshop in Mexico City. It is individually hand made out of Borosilicate Glass, which is thinner, lighter and can resist abrupt thermal changes.

Recently José de la O has been recognised by Architectural Digest Mexico as one of the Top Ten Mexican Young Designers.

USE & CARE
Fill with water and hang near food.

While the sphere is meant to dissuade flies from making a beeline for your meal, keep in mind that it will most likely not ward off mosquitoes (which, in addition to sight, also rely on smells and sources of heat). Natural outdoor light and the closer you can hang the Fly Sphere to your food the more effective it will be.
